Meet Dr. Matthew Tillman

“Every patient that comes into our office should be made to feel welcome and important, with my goal being to optimize or maintain their oral health with a team approach that includes their family, the patient, and our team here at Seaside.” – Dr. Matt

Dr. Matt is originally from Johnson City, TN. He decided to leave the mountains for the beaches of Charleston, SC, where he completed his undergraduate degree in 2007 at the College of Charleston. He then completed dental school in Memphis at the University of Tennessee in 2011. After graduating dental school, he worked as a general dentist in his hometown of Johnson City for four years. After several years in practice, he realized he had a strong interest in pediatric dentistry, and applied for a two-year residency to become a pediatric dentistry specialist. As luck would have it, he matched at his top choice—MUSC, and completed his residency in 2017.

Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Matt took a written exam and an oral clinical exam to become a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. There are several continuing education requirements to maintain diplomate status, all of which allow him to stay up to date with the latest information to help better serve his patients.

Dr. Matt is a member of the following organizations:

  • American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
  • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
  • American Dental Association
  • South Carolina Dental Association
  • Pee Dee District Dental Association
  • Grand Strand Dental Society

Outside of the office, Dr. Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Sydney and their two children, Anne Caroline and Connor. When he’s not working, Dr. Matt enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, participating in F3 workouts, and watching sports. He’s a huge Tennessee Volunteers and Atlanta Braves fan! In 2018, Dr. Matt joined the Murrells Inlet Rotary Club as a way to network with members in the community, as well as help improve the community through service to it.
